You know what, Poker isn't fair. Get over it

For some reason this guy continued playing when the cards just weren't going his way. He let the bad beats and his own negative attitude consume him. He became everybody's chump in the online poker room. His stories encouraged everyone to go after him. He was on tilt so he made too many bad decisions and kept losing pots.

When the cards don't seem to be going your way, take a break. Read more »

Poker is Like Shooting at Targets

Poker can be a lot like shooting at targets.  You wait until the perfect moment, get your target carefully lined up in the sights and then you pull the trigger. The only problem is that the targets can, and often do, start shooting back at you!

We hear the poker experts talking about being aggressive. I agree, but I think a lot of the newer players mistakenly believe that means being aggressive all the time. Read more »

Starting Hands in Texas Hold 'Em

No other casino game offers similar advantages to those we enjoy in the William Hill poker room. The other games don't even come close. What other game allows you to view your cards and then decide whether you will play or not, even before you have placed a bet?

The importance of selecting good starting hands can't be overstated. Some players seem to believe any two cards may end up getting "hit in the mouth" on the flop. The quality of your hole cards
Your chip stack
Your opponents chip stacks
Your position at the table
The size of the pot
The aggressiveness or passiveness of players yet to act
In tournament play you will also want to consider the stage of the tourney

Overestimating Your Poker Ability

I have some formal training due to past employment in the legal field where I was certified in neurolinguistic programming and interview techniques.  I have had occasion to interview many people under various circumstances and judge their reactions. One thing I have learned is that we humans have a tendency to overestimate our ability.

We all have ego, admittedly some more than others. Read more »

THE WORST TEXAS HOLD'EM POKER HANDS

Throughout this article you will notice that I say proceed with caution a lot, but I do not give specific advice. That is because there is no rule that says "you need to do this" with any certain hand.

Any hand can become a good hand if the right flop comes up, and any hand could also be bluffed if you act it right. Read more »

COMMON PRE-FLOP MISTAKES

Other than that, it's pretty simple. You never know what cards are truly going to be a good hand before the flop, and even sometimes after it, but there are a few general guidelines. If you have two low cards that are off-suit (they are of different suits) then you probably shouldn't play them unless you intend to bluff. A good example of this hand is a 2c and a 7h. In this case you Read more »
